Clinical planning

Why surgeon-led assessment matters

Treatment should start with suitability

A hair transplant is not suitable for every patient. Before treatment is planned, the donor area, hair-loss pattern, age, medical history, scalp condition and expectations should be reviewed.

The aim is to recommend a safe and realistic treatment plan, not simply to fill an area without considering future hair loss or donor supply.

What should be assessed?

  • hair-loss pattern and likely progression;
  • donor-area strength and density;
  • hair calibre, curl and coverage potential;
  • medical history and suitability factors;
  • hairline, crown or facial-hair design;
  • graft numbers and expected density;
  • whether surgery, PRP or medication may be discussed.
Important: Hair transplant growth, density, healing and final appearance vary between patients. A consultation can explain what may be realistic for your individual case.

Methods

FUE, DHI, FUT and non-surgical support

Surgical options

FUE, DHI and FUT may be discussed depending on the patient’s donor area, treatment goals, graft requirements, hair type and suitability.

  • FUE may suit selected patients needing individual graft extraction;
  • DHI may be discussed where implanter-device placement is suitable;
  • FUT may be considered for selected cases but leaves a linear donor scar.

Supportive treatment discussion

Some patients may benefit from discussing non-surgical support, medication routes, PRP treatment or monitoring before surgery is considered.

The right route depends on diagnosis, age, stability of hair loss, donor supply and expectations.

Cost and expectations

Planning before price

What affects hair transplant cost?

Hair transplant cost depends on treatment area, graft requirements, donor-area suitability, chosen method, hair type and the complexity of the treatment plan.

A smaller hairline refinement will usually require different planning from a larger crown, temple or multi-area procedure.

Questions to ask before treatment

  • am I suitable for surgery?
  • how strong is my donor area?
  • how many grafts may be needed?
  • what result may be realistic?
  • how will future hair loss be managed?
  • what does recovery and shedding involve?

Common questions

Our Surgeon FAQs

Why is surgeon-led hair transplant planning important?

Hair transplant planning should consider donor supply, hair-loss pattern, treatment goals, medical history, expected density and long-term hair-loss progression before treatment is recommended.

What happens during a hair transplant assessment?

A consultation should review the donor area, treatment area, suitability, hair-loss pattern, medical history, likely graft requirements, recovery and realistic expectations.

Can every patient have a hair transplant?

No. Some patients may not be suitable for surgery, or may need medication discussion, PRP, monitoring or an alternative plan before treatment is considered.

Why is donor-area management important?

Donor hair is limited. Careful planning helps protect the donor area and supports future treatment options if hair loss progresses.

Are hair transplant results guaranteed?

No. Growth, density, healing and final appearance vary between patients. A consultation can explain what may be realistic for your individual case.
