Our Approach to Hair Restoration

Dr Kalra assesses patient suitability, examines the donor area and plans treatment around the individual pattern of hair loss. His assessment includes scalp health, medical history, existing hair, treatment goals and the likelihood of continued thinning.
Where surgery is suitable, he considers the graft supply, recipient-area design, natural hair direction and the coverage that can reasonably be created. The appropriate approach is chosen after that assessment rather than before it.

Consultation, treatment and aftercare
The process starts with a conversation about the area that concerns you and how the hair loss has changed. Details of previous treatment, medication and relevant medical history help the team understand what needs to be assessed. Clear photographs of the hairline, crown and donor area can be useful before an appointment, although they do not replace a full examination.
Consultation and assessment
During the consultation, the scalp, existing hair and donor area are reviewed together. This is where the clinic establishes whether surgery is appropriate, whether the pattern is still progressing and how much stable donor hair is available. If the donor area cannot support the result being requested, that needs to be explained before a procedure is discussed.
Agreeing the treatment plan
Where treatment is suitable, the discussion moves to the area that can reasonably be restored, the likely graft requirement and the approach that fits the case. Recovery, limitations and confirmed costs are covered at the same time. The patient can then consider the written plan without being expected to make an immediate booking decision.
Treatment and aftercare
Before surgery, the design and procedure-day arrangements are reviewed again. After treatment, written instructions cover washing, sleeping, exercise, swelling and scabbing, together with contact details for any recovery concerns. The skin heals first; visible growth then develops gradually over the following months.

Good communication matters because a hair transplant unfolds over months, not days. The scalp settles first, many transplanted hairs shed, and new growth appears gradually. Patients need clear advice during each stage instead of being left to judge normal recovery from photographs on the internet.
We also make a clear distinction between advice that can be given remotely and decisions that require a fuller scalp and donor-area examination. Photographs are useful for an initial review, but final suitability, graft planning and treatment design depend on the individual assessment.
